The other sport I have continued to take a great interest in is, of course, football - or soccer......

I started playing on the Bongs with the Barnes Road/Crowood gang in my early years and I always tried to play in goal... Less running around you see..... I never played competitively but always enjoyed a kick around and the challenge of trying to stop the opponents goals being scored.

When Kevin was 8 he wanted to play footie and so he joined the St Michael's Junior squad in the under 9’s league and he must have inherited my genes because he became a gaolie too.... but playing it competitively from that young age. Every weekend Irene and I would go to wherever the match was being played in Widnes/Warrington and watched with great interest as Kevin developed his skill. After a few seasons as reserve goalkeeper he eventually became first choice keeper for the team as they grew through the leagues of Junior football.

This often involved us standing on the touchline for the duration of the game in cold, damp conditions cheering on the team - it was not the most comfortable of pastimes in the winter months for the players or the onlookers - but they persevered to became a major team in the Warrington League and won several honours during their teen years together.

Kevin became a regular player in the Halton schoolboys and Cheshire County team, representing the county at competition in Germany and in the UK.

At the age of 16/17 he was signed by Warrington Town as a junior but sadly his football career was ended in a bad road accident when he broke his femur and was seriously injured.

Despite his short football career we are justly proud of his achievements in the game and still have his many trophies which are pictured above..............

And now the latest sport for Kevin is of course involving his life in Norway - so Cycling kayaking, skiing and snowboarding are the new interests - and Arne and Mina are following on with mum Monica as well...
